Traders welcome back the Shepton Mallet Sunday market

11 September 2017

Local traders have given their overwhelming support to the Shepton Mallet Sunday market, which returns to the High Street on 17 September.

A variety of traders will be at the market selling a wide range of items, including clothing, jewellery, cheeses, stained glass, children's tepees and much more.

One of the traders who will be at the next Sunday market is the Wakey Cakey Kitchen.

The business was started by Jules Moule when a life-changing spinal injury in 2010 forced a career change. What started as a hobby to keep busy during rehabilitation quickly turned into a thriving business.

Jules said: "We've gone from selling half a dozen gingerbread houses to a few friends at Christmas to seven-tier wedding cakes, four international awards and a feature in a national wedding magazine

"We also run children's cupcake classes during the school holidays, and have had the privilege of hosting and teaching work experience students from local schools for the last four years.

"Whilst we concentrate mainly on celebration and wedding cakes, markets and food festivals also play an important role. We've created an eye-catching display with our cupcakes, and interacting with friends and customers over a cake is a real joy.

"Growing up and living locally for over 40 years makes me incredibly proud of Somerset and it's fantastic to see so many local independent businesses trading and supporting the market.

"It would be so great to see this market grow and local support is absolutely vital, so if you haven't paid a visit to the Sunday market yet pop along to the next one, there is a really nice selection of local produce and goodies.

"We will be there with our range of cupcakes and gluten free traybakes, you can also buy fruit and veg, pies, toys, cards and gifts, crafts, stained glass decorations (my collection grows after each market - they are mesmerizing!) and many of the shops are open too!"

Cllr Nigel Taylor, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood and Community Health Services, said: "I'm delighted that the Wakey Cakey Kitchen will be among the many traders at the next Sunday market. There's sure to be something for everyone, so why not pop down and treat yourself or pick up that perfect gift."

The next market takes place on Sunday 17 September in Shepton Mallet High Street from 10am to 3pm.
