New market officially opens in Street

Street's new weekly market was officially opened for business last week

A new Mendip market started trading this week in Street on Thursday and was officially opened by Cllr Dick Skidmore, Chairman of Mendip District Council and Cllr Nina Swift Chairman from Street Parish Council.

Mendip District Council has worked in partnership with Street Parish Council to bring the new market, adding to others run by the district council in Frome, Glastonbury, Shepton Mallet and Wells.

Cllr Dick Skidmore, Chairman of Mendip District Council, said: "The market in Street will be a great addition to the shopping experience available in Street and we hope it will be a boost to the High Street.

"I am delighted to have been able to officially open the market on Thursday, it's great that we have been able to work in partnership with Street Parish Council to launch this market and I wish it every success."

Councillor Nina Swift, Chairman of Street Parish Council said: "I am pleased that by working with Mendip Council, Street now has a weekly market. We hope it will go some way to help increase footfall in our High Street and offer Street residents and visitors even more variety. I wish the new market every success and hope it also helps our steadfast local traders."

The market will alternate between the High Street and Farm Road each Thursday from 9am to 4pm and then once a month on the third Thursday of the month the market will switch to an afternoon/evening market running from 1pm - 8pm on Farm Road. The market this week on Thursday 21 June will take place on Farm Road.
