Council to host 'Question Time' event to launch candidate campaign

Have you ever considered what it takes to be a councillor? Do you think you could stand for election? Or want to know more about how you could stand up for what you believe in? An event taking place in Mendip later this month could answer all your questions.

Mendip District Council is hosting a question time event later this month to give people the opportunity to learn more about becoming a councillor and encourage people to stand as a candidate at the district elections in May 2019.

The Question Time event will take place on Wednesday, October 24 at 7pm in the Council Chamber at Mendip District Council offices in Shepton Mallet.

A panel of current members from the district council will be on hand to answer any questions that you have. You will get the opportunity to learn more about what it takes to be councillor, how to juggle your work, family and councillor responsibilities.

By becoming a councillor you could make a significant and positive difference to your community by standing as a candidate at the upcoming elections next year in May.

Stuart Brown, Mendip District Council's Chief Executive and Elections Returning Officer, said: "The event is a great opportunity to come along and learn more about what being a councillor involves. It's a great chance to talk with current councillors who are best placed to let you know what is involved and how they manage the many roles in their lives.

"By standing as a candidate or becoming a councillor you could make a significant and positive difference to your community."
