Mendip Local Area Profiles

A great deal of data is available from a variety of sources which can be used to help place Mendip in context in Somerset, the South West and the country in general.

This data can be particularly valuable when profiling Council service users, especially in respect of specific protected groups.

The Somerset Intelligence Partnership (SIP) provides a network for public bodies to share data and intelligence across organisations to help build good practice and work collaboratively on data, research and consultation projects. SIP have developed a community profile tool for the whole district area and individual wards, including data on age, sex, race and other protected characteristics.

Local Area Profiles

The area of Mendip District Council encompasses 34 wards and 62 parishes and borders Sedgemoor and South Somerset in addition to the unitary authorities of North Somerset, Bath & North East Somerset and Wiltshire.

The population of 110,844 (2014 mid year estimate) lives in area of 73,943 hectares, largely concentrated in the towns of Frome, Glastonbury, Shepton Mallet, Street and Wells.

Community profiles at both a local authority and ward level can be generated and downloaded on the Somerset intelligence website.

Census and wider data

As part of SIP the council has access to information and analysis of data available through the census and other sources. This information can be found below:
