Communities views to be heard in focussed consultation on Local Plan Part II
A focussed consultation is due to start today (Tuesday 12 March) on the draft Mendip Local Plan Part II.
Mendip District Council recently announced that following the submission of the Local Plan Part II a date had been set for a public examination and the Inspector who would carry out the examination had also been announced.
Due to the process of the local plan that the council has to adhere to, there was no chance to re-consult on the proposed modifications that were made to the plan before submission.
At a public council meeting earlier in the year it became clear that a number of members of the local community had views on the proposed modifications. At the meeting councillors reassured the public that they would make the strong feeling known to the Inspector who would be dealing with the public examination.
As a result the Local Plan Inspector has recommended that these changes are published for public consultation to enable him to consider them at the examination.
Cllr Nigel Woollcombe-Adams, Portfolio Holder for Planning, Growth and Housing Services, said: "The Local Plan process did not allow for us to re-consult on our proposed modifications prior to submitting the part two but we made a commitment to our communities that we would ensure that the Inspector understood their strong desire for their views to be heard. As a consequence I am really pleased that the Inspector is allowing us the opportunity to do some additional consultation before he holds the public examination."
Mendip District Council is therefore inviting responses to Proposed Changes to the Submission Draft of the Mendip Local Plan Part II. The consultation will run for six weeks from Tuesday 12 March to Wednesday 24 April 2019.
This consultation only relates to the Proposed Changes, accompanying maps and other documents which have been updated before submission. The consultation is not an opportunity to raise new objections to the Pre-submission Plan.
