Discretionary Rate Relief

We are able to consider awarding additional relief to certain types of businesses, through a scheme known as Discretionary Rate Relief.

Businesses the Council may provide further support for are: Charities; Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASC's); Non-Profit Making Organisations and certain public houses, village shops and petrol stations in Rural Areas.  In addition, the Council is also able to consider awarding discretionary relief to certain businesses who are suffering hardship, and in some cases where a new or expanding business is bringing in specified inward investment to Mendip under The Localism Act, 2011. Please see the details and application process, Icon for pdf Application for Discretionary Rate Relief [125.75KB].

For 2019/20 there is very limited rate relief for ratepayers most affected by the 2017 Revaluation. Please see revaluation 2017. Please contact our NNDR office for more details.

For 2019/20 and 2020/21 there is also retail relief on certain properties that are wholly or mainly used for retail. Details are in the Policy (under Documents)
