Data and Information

Information is a key resource for Mendip District Council and in order to improve our delivery of services to the citizens of Mendip, it is essential that the information the Council holds is properly managed, kept secure and up to date.

Mendip District Council takes very seriously the management of personal data, along with all the information it collects as an organisation. The council manages vast amounts of information about its staff, suppliers, service users and all of the many individuals who live, work or have an interest in Mendip.

On January 1st 2005 new Environmental Information Regulations, EIR, came into force. These replaced the previous regulations which had been in place since 1992, giving members of the public the right to access environmental information held by public authorities.
It is important for Mendip District Council to know about its citizens living within the local authority area. To help with this there are a range of data sources available which include census data sets, Indices of Multiple Deprivation, Joint Strategic Needs Assessment and other data sets, all of which enable the council to know more about the makeup of the district.
Managing performance is essential in ensuring the Council is achieving those things that are important locally.
