Strategic Housing Market Assessment (SHMA) 2016
A SHMA study is being produced jointly with other Somerset Authorities which is due to be completed by Summer 2016. This will update the Mendip Housing Needs Assessment (2012).
The study will identify:
- The most appropriate Housing Market Areas which cover Mendip
- The extent of Housing need from 2014 to 2036 for general, specialist and affordable dwellings
- Recommendations on size and type of dwellings in the Housing Market Area.
This is the first step in updating the SHMA and recommends that Mendip District can be considered a self contained housing market area.
This remains the most recent assessment of future housing requirements and used to support adopted policy DP11 (Affordable Housing) and policy DP14 (Housing Mix).
This study provides supporting evidence to the Affordable Housing Policy DP11.
Councils across Somerset jointly commissioned this study to assess the need for residential and transit pitches for the travelling community in the county. The requirements are set out in adopted Development Policy 15. -Sites for Gypsies, Travellers and Travelling Showpeople.
