Previous Stages

This page summarises the stages of work undertaken in preparing the replacement Mendip District Local Plan Part I: Strategy and Policies (previously known as the Local Development Framework Core Strategy).

It should also be noted that previous stages have also helped inform the Sustainable Community Strategy.

The stages to date are set out in reverse chronological order:

The Council received the Inspector's final report on 2nd October 2014. It is available to view and download in the documents section below.
The Government published the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) document at the end of March 2012.
Over 400 responses were received commenting on the draft plan.
The consultation period ran from 17th February to 31st March.
The General Election resulted in a Coalition Government which swiftly moved to discard Regional Spatial Strategies (RSS).
During the autumn and winter of 2010, work was focused on developing housing and employment targets based around the then Regional Spatial Strategy proposals.
This period was concerned with analysing the 475 separate responses to the consultation exercise.
